Stefon Diggs out for season with torn ACL in Texans injury crusher

Oct 30, 2024

Stefon Diggs is done for the year.

Texans coach Demeco Ryans confirmed Tuesday that the star receiver, 30, suffered a torn ACL after exiting Sunday’s win over the Colts early with a non-contact injury.

“Unfortunately, he tore his ACL so he’ll be out for the year,” the second-year coach told reporters. “Really hurt, hurts our team to hear that news. He’s been such an important part to our team and everything he brought not only on the field, but off the field, the energy, the leader, the way he worked every single day, he brought a lot to our team and we have to pick up the slack. … Definitely praying for him to have a speedy and successful recovery, definitely a blow to us.”

Diggs, who arrived in Houston this offseason following a trade with the Bills, grabbed at his knee following a route against the Colts before hunching over in apparent pain on the ground.

He walked off the field as the Texans secured their sixth win of the year in the 23-20 victory.

Through eight games, Diggs tallied 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a score on the ground.

Diggs is projected to be a free agent in 2025 after the Texans reworked a contract that erased the final three years on his current deal.

The four-time Pro Bowler initially signed a four-year, $96 million extension with the Bills in April 2022, two years after his Buffalo tenure began.

Diggs landed with the Bills in 2020 following a very public breakup with the Vikings, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The injury blow comes ahead of the Texans (6-2) visiting the Jets (2-6) on Thursday night.

The Texans are already without fellow star receiver Nico Collins due to a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve after the Week 5 win against the Bills.
